The Series:
“Building Relationships”

Sermon Two
“Interaction”

Three Personal Questions
  1. Is this how you would want to be treated?
  2. Is this how you would want to be treated, if you were them?
  3. Do you understand what it is like being them?

Rom 13:9 (NIV) The commandments, “Do not commit adultery,” “Do not murder,” “Do not steal,” “Do not covet,” and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

It all starts with self-love; that seems like a concept that wouldn’t be presented in Christianity or the Bible. However, God takes us into a training program that requires us to look at our own feelings and desires so we can better understand how others feel. If we don’t know what we want, need, like, and deserve, then we won’t be able to understand how others feel or what they deserve.

Esteem, Confidence, And Love
God upgrades your esteem, confidence, and love by moving you into God-esteem, confidence in God, and love for yourself through Jesus. People won’t have to walk on glass as they have to carefully watch their words in having a relationship with you.
They will be able to look to you, trust you, and seek your help. You will be able to offer all those around you the things that God has to offer.

Love Your Neighbor
All relationships are based on the characteristics and attitudes of the people involved. They can be no better than the way each person understands what love is all about. Until you have experienced God’s love in your life, until you have felt His love in your heart, until you have been blessed because you are His child, you won’t know how to build relationships of love with others.

These three questions are built around Scriptures that are asking you to evaluate how you would want to be treated. As long as you know and have a clear understanding of how you need and should be treated, you will be able to respond to these questions with the heart of God. The more intensely you feel the love of God, the more you will see what is needed in other’s lives.

If you really love the way God has treated and blessed you, then it will raise your standard for the way those around you should be treated. Your God-esteem, God-confidence, and God-love will be so fulfilled in you that you will have a much higher view of how others should be helped and blessed.
