Jesus’ Sermon On The Mount

Study Two

The Holy Spirit is your law of the Spirit of life for bringing the life and ministry of Jesus into your life and ministry.

Your Body Can Block Off Your Ministry
Rom 8:1-2 (NIV) Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.

Your body gets pleasure from feeling successful, powerful, and in control. This attitude gets in the way of us being poor in spirit. We have to realize that our will has to be separated from the will of our body. It has attitudes and desires that are very animalistic. By nature, it is selfish, self-centered, and self-aware. God’s love changes our love for our self, others, and Him. His love takes EVERYONE into account. We learn how to examine situations that involve others and God and pray for a solution that is beneficial for us, God, and other people.

God’s Love Takes The Selfishness Away
Mark 12:30-31 (NIV) Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor AS yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.

This verse shows us a love relationship that includes God, us, and other people. Starting with a complete love for God, we are empowered to love those around us with the love God gave us for our self. Looking at our self and the godly desires God has placed in us, we are able to know what it is we want. This makes it possible for us to start caring for others.

God’s Love Broadens Your Concerns
Luke 6:31 (NIV) Do to others as you would have them do to you.

If it isn’t clear to you how you want to be treated, then your treatment of others is going to be bad. So, God pours His love into you (Romans 5:5) so you can learn how to properly love yourself. He has been teaching you how He is treating you and helping you appreciate His treatment of you. Then He asks you to start doing the same for others.

The more He loves you and does wonderful things for you, the more you are able to appreciate them and want to share them with others. Your appreciation is a love from your heart, soul, mind and strength of will. Your appreciation shows up as praise, worship, thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6), and sharing with others (Matthew 25:31-46).

God’s Love Helps You Make Comparisons
Phil 2:4 (NIV) Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Ministry is a constant flow of God and you working together to meet your needs and then helping you so appreciate it that you share them with others and pray for their needs.
God’s love is constantly bringing you into a comparison of how you feel about things with what others are going through. As you compare what you want with what others need, you can better understand how to minister to others. The more you enjoy your relationship with God, the more you can see how much others need Him. This helps you reach out in ministry to them.

God’s Love Helps You Win Against Your Body
Rom 7:22-23 (NIV) For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members.

A love for God’s law starts in your mind, which is in your inner being. Your inner being is your spirit. The love that is in the mind of your spirit has to be able to break free from the law at work in the members of your body. So, the Holy Spirit comes to your rescue and provides you with a law that is much more powerful that the laws of the Old Testament.

Rom 7:25 (NIV) Thanks be to God--through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.

The sinful nature is in your body and has to be dealt with. The Holy Spirit deals with this law of your body by giving you a love that is powerful enough to defeat the selfish, self-centered, animalistic will and desires of your body. You get so much compassion for others by putting yourself in their place, that you WILLINGLY work together with the Holy Spirit to put the misdeeds of your body to death (Romans 8:13).

God’s Love Helps You LIVE The Laws Of The Spirit
Rom 8:1-4 (NIV) Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending His Own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so He condemned sin in sinful man, IN ORDER THAT the righteous requirements of the law might be FULLY met in us, who do not LIVE according to the sinful nature but ACCORDING to the Spirit.

This is when your ministry really starts reaching out to people. The Holy Spirit helps you work against the law that is in your body. Rather than being selfish, self-centered and only seeing things from your own perspective, He helps you start comparing your wants, desires, needs, and blessings with the needs of hurting people. You allow yourself to be put in their place and feel how they feel. You then take all your love for taking good care of yourself with God and think about others and their need for God. This constant comparison opens your heart to doing as much as you can to help others.
