The Law - Continued This Exceeds My Abilities
Gal 5:16-21 (NIV) So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law. The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. |
I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Here is the way things still are. We still cannot do sinful things. “...those who live like this will not inherit the Kingdom of God.” Even though sanctification is a process and we probably will never be perfect here on earth, sanctification is still a process. If we have stagnated, then sanctification is no longer a process in us. In other words, as Christians we will always be progressing toward that goal. That progress must never stop. And, that progress is not just getting rid of the “acts of the sinful nature.” Okay, I no longer have other gods, make idols and worship them, use God’s name in a derogatory way, forget the Sabbath, dishonor my parents, murder, commit adultery, steal, give false witness, covet my neighbor’s house, possessions, or wife. Have I arrived? No! |
