It can be very difficult associating with non-christians.

It can even challenge our ability to live a pure life that abstains from the temptations of the world. None of us want to be exposed to temptations that drag us back into the world. Associating exclusively with Christians definitely pushes us in the right direction. We are less likely to be encouraged to do something sinful. This is where the Holy Spirit’s disciple training system comes in. As with Jesus, He wants us to learn while working with a mature Christian. A new Christian working together out in the world with a mature Christian can let their light shine without being pulled back into the world.
