Some Rules Were Made To Be Broken
A little known aspect of a human’s configuration is the fact that we are made up of two major spiritual parts. And, those two parts operate under two different legislative systems.
Rom 7:22-23 (NIV) For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. We, by ourselves, can’t “will” our body into following God’s laws. But, we don’t have to live the Christian life on our own. We and the Holy Spirit work together with the law of God against the law of sin that is at work within our bodily members. This is where Jesus was working in His disciple’s lives. Step by step He taught and enabled them to start defeating the law of sin and the inappropriate activities of their bodies. |
Staying Poor In Spirit Protects You Against Your Body’s Motives
The same “poor in spirit” that brought us to Jesus is the same attitude that helps us start looking to the Holy Spirit for help with the law of our body. This heads us in the direction of winning against our sinful nature. If we don’t allow ourselves to be poor in spirit, we won’t open our heart up to the Holy Spirit. We will keep trying to live the Christian life on our own.
Even though you have gained a lot of victories over the law of your body, it will continue to try to mislead you. It may come as a shock to you; but, your body can get religion. By twisting your motives for why you do what you do, your body will become willing to “get on-board with you.” It can become willing to desire, study, pray, believe, and take faith-action for the purposes of money, possessions, prestige, positions, power, and popularity. Keep praying for God to help you overcome the motives of your body. Ask Him to help you keep your body being presented as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1-2). |
