Mat 7:13-14 (NIV) Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Physical Ministry Leads To
Spiritual Ministry
Mat 7:13-14 (NIV) Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Mat 9:2-8(NIV) Some men brought to Him a paralytic, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.”

At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming!” Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins....” Then He said to the paralytic, “Get up, take your mat and go home.” And the man got up and went home.

When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, Who had given such authority to men.
As you can see, the only thing that spoke to the crowd was Jesus’ ability to heal the man physically. Yet, Jesus was telling them that He had the ability to save him and them for eternity. Did that impress them and cause them to all run to the front for salvation? No! They didn’t realize they needed to be saved. They didn’t even know what salvation was. But, they were growing in their trust and appreciation for Jesus’ love and compassion. He was growing in their hearts as He helped them with their temporal needs. Later, many of these same people came to Jesus and accepted Him as their Lord and Savior.

We want to skip their physical needs and go straight for their spiritual needs. They want to skip their spiritual needs and go straight for getting their physical needs met. This attitude of skipping spiritual things and going straight for physical supply is what Jesus has been dealing with in us Christians.

We want to go straight for a job that gives us money. Jesus wants us to seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness and then all of our physical needs will be met. In other words, God will get around to helping us work on these spiritual issues. He will eventually start teaching us to put a priority on spiritual things first. But, we will have to help an unsaved person see spiritual things and get help from them after they see the power of God help them with their physical needs.
