Drugs
When you start using drugs to anesthetize or medicate yourself, you are leaving a problem, issue, or responsibility undone. You are trying to escape a situation that needs to be dealt with rather than avoided. But, because the pain of the situation is so intense, you just want to get away from it, ignore it, or become oblivious to it. Jesus wants you to give this overwhelming problem to Him for Him to handle. When you use drugs for extreme pleasure, you are removing yourself from real life. You are getting pleasure from something that isn’t helping you win at life. Jesus won’t give you extreme pleasure because it addicts you. But, He will give you pleasure that draws you into succeeding at life.
Another big issue has to do with why drugs are something you feel you need to do. There can be emotional issues, relationship problems, and other stressing things that cause you to feel like you have to self-medicate. Jesus will help you see if there is some kind of damage or hurt that is driving you toward drugs. He will be able to go into the areas of your heart that no one can access. He will help you be set free from those things that are setting you up for failure.
Once you open the door to something like drugs, you have exposed your body to extreme pleasure. The moment your body experiences extreme pleasure, it wants it on a constant basis. It will try to drive you away from those things that only provide you and it with mild pleasures. This can take your life away from you; you can find yourself neglecting things that are normal requirements of life. It can also change you reasons for why you do what you do. Most everything you do can be setting you up for your next time of extreme pleasure.
If this is the area where you are suffering the most, then it would be good for you to take this study. Just select the “Drugs” word in the gray box and it will take you to that study.
