Alcoholic beverages can be acceptible for human consumption under normal circumstances. When something can be acceptable in one situation and not another, it invites opportunities for abuse. Like certain types of drugs and drug applications, alcohol can be helpful for keeping your stomach from being upset. It can be an enjoyable way of ingesting liquids during meals. However, alcohol abuse is where the alcohol in the beverage starts to take away your self-control. When that starts to happen, that is where Jesus wants to help you get free from its influence. He wants you to be able to have control over your mental faculties at all times.

Another big issue has to do with why alcohol is something you feel you need to do. There can be emotional issues, relationship problems, and other stressing things that cause you to feel like you have to self-medicate. Jesus will help you see if there is some kind of damage or hurt that is driving you toward alcohol. He will be able to go into the areas of your heart that no one can access. He will help you be set free from those things that are setting you up for failure.

Once you open the door to something like alcohol abuse, you have exposed your body to extreme pleasure. The moment your body experiences extreme pleasure, it wants it on a constant basis. It will try to drive you away from those things that only provide you and it with mild pleasures. This can take your life away from you; you can find yourself neglecting things that are normal requirements of life. It can also change you reasons for why you do what you do. Most everything you do can be setting you up for your next time of extreme pleasure.
