Just like the human body has soft skin exposed to the dangerous things of this world and needs extra protection, so does your emotions and your thoughts. All of your life you have been attacked by words, people’s actions, circumstantial difficulties, and spiritual temptations. Your heart has been easily accessed and damaged by things that have hurt, abused, and misused it. You have had experiences that you haven’t been able to protect yourself from. People you trusted that let you down, plans you pursued that were dead ends, events that went bad, questions that went unanswered, feeling and thoughts that haunted you, financial failures, and physical diseases that came against you, all hit you without you being able to defend yourself.

God has provided you with a spiritual armor that you can put on; it is impenetrable. It will protect you from things that have been hurting you all your life. It will prevent new things from being able to damage you. The Holy Spirit will be using the Bible to teach you how to get this protection on so you won’t be so easily damaged and hurt.

You have been needing this protective armor all of your life; but, it took salvation to make it available to you. Now that you are a Christian, you can be trained by the Holy Spirit through God’s word on how to get it, how to put it on, and how to use it properly. This is the kind of information the Bible provides that solves your emotional, financial, relational, and bodily needs. At first it doesn’t make sense to us. We can’t understand how these Scriptures, in the Bible, are going to help us. But then we start learning how to use these spiritual truths and, one by one, our earthly problems start going away.

Ask God to help you open up to His special approach to solving your personal problems. Ask Him to help you learn this new way of getting help. Let Him help you believe in spiritual growth and training. Pray that He will help you see the superiority of this way of getting help. Ask Him to show you why you need to trade the world’s system of help for His system of help.
